How to: Perform batch actions using Batch ID

Batch actions are a feature that allows actions across multiple corresponding requests. Using the Batch ID we can control the effect of the action based on those items grouped with a matching Batch ID.

To see the batch features at work:

  1. Ensure the logged in user has the new privilege for “Can Perform Batch Actions” and “Can Import Data”.
  2. Add new Batch ID column to the grid so that it can be viewed and used to filter on.
  3. Import a set of requests.
  4. After importing, note that the Batch Id  for all newly imported items will be the Id of the first item imported.
(visible in the grid as a column because I added it to the Default form)
  5. Filter the grid on the Batch Id for these new items using the row header filter.
  6. In the View drop down menu, select Batch Actions.
(only visible if your user has the new privilege)
  7. Indicate if an email should be sent or not.
(only will regardless if the action is configured to do so)
  8. Enter a comment to be applied to each request when the action is triggered.
  9. Click to perform the action.
  10. Confirm the action.
  11. Observe that indeed the requests did have the action performed on them.
  12. Of course, in addition to the Batch ID field, other fields could be used to target a subset of a batch for a bulk action.
